Digital preloading for GTA VI begins on November 10, 2026: at midnight local time on PS5, and simultaneously worldwide at 00:00 GMT on Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar's updated support information calls for up to 212 GB of free space, depending on the device. Check your storage ahead of time so a lack of space does not stop the download from starting.
PlayStation 5
- Sign in to the account used to place the pre-order
- Open Game Library → Your Collection → GTA VI, select the timer and enable auto-download for the game
- Check your free space under Settings → Storage
- To download in rest mode, enable Stay Connected to the Internet under Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode
- Once preloading opens, return to the game in your library and make sure the download has actually started
These steps come from PlayStation's instructions. Having the setting enabled is not enough to consider the download complete.
Xbox Series X|S
Enable automatic updates and leave the console powered on or in Sleep mode: these are the conditions specified in Rockstar's FAQ. Check your free space and internet connection. 00:00 GMT does not mean midnight in every time zone: check the corresponding local time separately.
If the download has not started
First, check the account used for the purchase, your connection and your free space. On PS5, open Downloads/Uploads and try pausing the download, then resuming it. PlayStation recommends these steps for a stalled download queue. If the error keeps occurring, save its exact code and contact your platform's support team: the code is more useful than a general report that "it won't download".
Do not delete save data just to free up space unless necessary. First, review your installed games and check what is taking up storage. Plan the download around your connection: the free space required is not the same as the exact amount of internet data you will use. Having the files ready on your console also does not mean the game is already available to launch.
